Traditionally, Mexico has not taken the same approach to managing risk as we do in the United States. For example, the purchase of homeowner’s insurance is a common practice in the United States—not so common in Mexico. Americans are becoming significant property owners in Mexico and American lenders are requiring property and casualty insurance to be purchased.
Mexican insurance companies traditionally do not issue homeowner’s policies like we have in the U.S.—that is why we have gone to U.S. insurance companies to provide coverage for U.S. citizens with homes in Mexico. |
